RECYCLING ANIMALS IN NEED

Recycling Animals In Need (R.A.I.N.) is a State Licensed, Not-For-Profit, Tax Deductible 501(c)3 humane organization, staffed entirely by volunteers, working to find new homes for unwanted and/or homeless dogs and cats. Founded in 2000, R.A.I.N. has placed thousands of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens in new, loving homes.

Our animals come primarily from area shelters and are placed in foster care upon arrival in our group. There, the animals are brought up-to-date on all medical needs (spay/neuter, testing for infectious diseases, shots, worming, etc.).

While in our care the animals are also evaluated to determine what would be the best type of home for them. We are not looking for the most placements, we are looking for the BEST placements!

In addition, R.A.I.N. strives to promote responsible pet ownership through education. We help people learn to work through behavioral and training issues or assist them in finding professional resources if necessary.

We have adoption events on weekends to give potential adopters the chance to meet with the available animals, send them to the Zoo de Beauval billets talk to a placement counselor or just stop by and say “hello”.

So take a look around our site! Hopefully we will answer most of your questions about us and introduce you to some of our pets. View our contact page if you have additional questions. You can also fill out the adoption application and fax or e-mail it to us so we can start you on the journey toward finding your new family member!

The Importance of FOSTERING Shelter Animals

What is it, who does it and why is it done?

Dogs and cats end up in shelters for many reasons. They are picked up as strays, given up by their owners or removed from a neglectful situation just to mention a few.

Regardless of the reason, these animals are confused and sometimes frightened while in the shelter.

Foster care allows the dog or cat time to relax and recover. It also gives us a chance to learn about the likes and dislikes of each animal. This dog is good with other dogs and kids, that cat doesn’t like dogs, that dog needs a fenced yard, this cat needs a quiet home, etc..

Many times animals too young to adopt are brought to shelters. These babies need time to mature, catch up on their vaccinations, and be safely spayed or neutered before they can be ready to find their new homes!

Home care also allows us to get a head start on the animals’ new life by working on housetraining, basic obedience and manners.

MONEY DONATIONS

Money Donations are always needed and welcomed. We are a licensed Not-For-Profit organization 501c3. All the money donated goes to provide for the animals' needs. For example, a $10.00 donation could feed a litter of kittens for a week, or pay for ear mite medication or eye ointment. It could also pay for Frontline (flea treatment/preventative) for a small or medium sized dog, lasting for 3 months. A $5.00 donation could purchase cat litter or even an ID tag for a collar, which can save a life!

No matter what your donation might be, it is greatly appreciated and goes to benefit the animals.

On behalf of the animals, The R.A.I.N. Team would like to say 'THANK YOU' for your support!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

This page is intended to help answer some of the most Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's). Please see our website for more detailed information, directions, contact information, fees and much, much more.

Adoptions:

We host adoption events on selected Saturdays at PetsMart in Geneva
We rarely place out of state - we like to be within 'help range' of our adoptees and their families. Occasionally on special needs or harder to place pets, we will consider out of area adoptions. But we require the adopters to complete the adoption process and paperwork in person....so if you are willing, drop us a line!
We do not ship animals.
We cannot hold animals for potential adopters.
Animals should not be given as gifts.
All members of the adoptive family household must be present for the adoption whenever possible. We welcome you to bring along your children and family dog(s) to meet the pet prior to adoption. We understand the family cat(s) may not appreciate the trip!
This website is maintained by volunteers, but we do our best to keep it up to date.
All pets posted are available unless marked otherwise ("adopted" or "adoption pending"). We are always getting new animals in and others are finding wonderful homes.
All of our animals have been temperment tested, are sociable, loving, friendly and adoptable. We welcome you to come meet us and our pets.
We try to keep our pet's biographies updated with current information; however, the best way to find out more information about an animal is to contact the person listed for that particular pet.
Our animals come to our group as strays or owner surrenders from local area facilities which have limited time and space. We rarely take from the public.
Home visits, in some cases are required at $10 per visit to help with gas and other expenses.

Dogs:

If we know that a dog would do best in a home without children or with children over a certain age, we post this information in their biography. This can be for various reasons.
Dogs that are evaluated to have a shy or timid personality, generally do best in homes with older children.
Dogs that are very large and high energy may also do best in homes with older children as they can topple the small ones!
Some dogs are just happiest around adults being spoiled rotten!
We require you to bring along your children to meet the new dog prior to adoption. We would like every adoption to be a good match.
If we know that a dog would do best in a home without dogs or cats, we post this information in their biography.
We encourage you to bring along your family dog to meet with us and our dogs. Introductions at PetsMart can be kind of stressful and some dogs are very distracted. We may choose to do introductions at your home or one of ours when a more neutral situation will help.
Most of us have foster cats and can also assess our dogs behavior around cats.

Cats:

If we know that a cat would do best in a home without dogs, cats or children, we post this information in their biography. We encourage all family members to meet the cat prior to adoption...so that cat can choose you!
Our cats are all so wonderfully loving, friendly and gorgeous! Most are raised with other cats, dogs and lots of attention.

Donations and Adoption Fees:

Your donation is 100% tax deductible (please ask your tax professional)
Your kind words and support are priceless!

S.O.S. - Save our Seniors:

Thanks to the many wonderful people who help by sponsoring a mature pet, RAIN has special needs or senior pets (cats and dogs) available at reduced adoption fees. These pets have often fallen on hard times after an guardian dies or moves away, some have even lost their homes when guardians are deployed overseas in the military.
If you are seeking one of these special pets and there is not one listed, let us know and we will make every effort to find you the perfect SOS pet!

REMEMBERING

RAIN is so sorry for the loss of your beloved.
We do not know who wrote the following poem but we have used a little “artist’s license” to adapt it to your loss.

God saw that he was getting tired and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around him and whispered, “Come with me.”

With tearful eyes you watched him suffer and saw him fade away. Although you loved him dearly, you could not make him stay.

A golden heart stopped beating, fast moving paws at rest. God broke your heart to prove he only takes the best.

A million times you thought of him, a million times you cried. If love alone could save him, he never would have died.

In life you loved him dearly, in death you love him still. In your heart he’ll hold a special place no one else can fill.

It broke your heart to lose him, but he did not go alone, for part of you went with him the day God took him home.

This is primarily an answering machine - messages left will be returned as quickly as possible. (Voicemail takes 48-72 hours depending on the number of calls we need to return.) However, please take the following into consideration:

If you have Caller ID and monitor all your calls, you may not recognize our number and pick up.
If you only have one line, and you are online, you will NOT be able to pick up.
Sorry, but we cannot return long distance, out of state calls.
As you can see, difficulties do arise in returning our calls. If you have called us and have not received an answer, please try e-mailing us to let us know. If possible please give us more than one number to call when leaving a message on our answering machine and a time that you can usually be reached.

If there is a contact listed for a pet you are interested in, please direct your inquiry to that e-mail or phone number.
They will know the most about that particular animal and can arrange an appointment.
